I sometimes think people forget that very, very few games companies release games anywhere near the scope of Bethesda Games. I’d like to preface by saying I have no idea how Starfield will turn out and I’m not dismissing concerns about combat or content bloat, but some of the reactions on the internet make it absolutely clear why game companies are reluctant to show gameplay demos.Ī 100 hour+ role-playing with dialogue trees, multiple skills, and ways to complete objectives and over 1,000 planets to explore reduced to ‘the combat looks bland’ or ‘it’s a boring No Man’s Sky’. Make a cheaper game with less voice-acting and set pieces, just clearing out buildings, retrieving items, etc. To be honest I’d rather they would do something like the Metal Gear Solid VR missions. I read that you said it was a remake and not a remaster, so does this mean they have to reshoot all the motion capture and voice acting? If they’re using the old captures that would maybe indicate the levels are going to be exactly the same?
I got the PlayStation 4 remaster and only got an hour in. But I do not think they have any real replay value. I loved the original and I loved the sequel. I thought I’d chuck in my feelings on The Last Of Us remake.

So I ended the show thinking there were a couple of games I’m definitely going to play, another six (maybe more) that I will at least have a go with, and a fictional spaceship added to Flight Simulator that I might try on xCloud, all over the next 12 months.

On the plus side though you’ll actually be able to play the games sometime soon.Īfterwards, I was thinking the show was like a 90-minute version of the adverts BBC/ITV/Sky put out to highlight the new drama programmes coming up at the start of a season, but instead of it being ‘coming this summer on BBC’ it’s ‘coming in the next year on Game Pass’.Īssuming you have Game Pass, you’re not watching, deciding if a game’s something you might want to drop £30-70 on, you’re watching thinking ‘might try’, ‘might try’, ‘definitely play’, ‘ignore’. It’s impossible to make people go crazy by showing games that are actually going to come out soon. The format of sticking to games being released in the next 12 months clearly has trade-offs though. I have to say I was really pleased with the Xbox & Bethesda showcase, or should it be called the Game Pass show? I think there was possibly about four things announced that weren’t included in Game Pass, making it actually quite hard to work out what you were going to have to pay more for. This remake seems like an increasingly bad idea to me. Just get on and make new things and stop trying to reheat and resell something that was a perfect game in its day but now should just be considered a product of its time.

I’m glad to hear that the series is moving back to a third person view, with the Village DLC, but as soon as you do that you lessen the need for these remakes in the first place. I’m sure they’ll have lots of sieges, especially the village scene at the beginning, in the Resident Evil 4 remake, but if you don’t have the wacky stuff as well then why call it Resident Evil 4? Just make a new spin-off from that timeline or something, people would be just as interested in a Resident Evil 4-2, I think.
